I will take this course work for not only the course required work but also for ways to improve my leadership and fundamentals I will need in the work place. Calvin Hobbes Absence

The Attendance record of Calvin Hobbes has been called in to question due to missing important meetings. After looking into the concerns several facts have surfaced.

1. Calvin Hobbes has missed thirty days of work in the last six months.
2. Half of his absences in the last six months have occurred on Fridays and the following Mondays.
3. Prior to this six month period, he had an excellent attendance record, averaging six absences a year.
4. When he is present his responsibilities are completed.

Calvin Hobbes is a valuable member of the team, and has good technical skills. The reported reason form Calvin Hobbes on the reason for absence is family illness. He has worked in the company for 10 years and this is the first problem with absences.

The possibility of a memo from your office citing the importance of the meetings, along with a stressing of the importance of being present at work would help with the problem.

I would also like to explore the possibility of major family illness and if sever the possibility of allowing Mr. Hobbes taking a leave longer leave to deal with the problems so that they do not affect the departments productivity.

The finally recommendation would be a memo from your office, along with giving him the opportunity to explain his absence pattern.

1. He needs to know the importance of the meetings and how he needs to be there.  So a course of action in which he can still be there for his family members who are sick but still make the important meetings. This could include changing when he takes off for emergencies with family.  In addion if the nedd is great a possible leave to take care of the problems at home.

Dr. Pearsall

This was one of my favorite presenters. He clearly an extremely smart man, having lunch with this man showed how he was able to carried on conversations with anyone yet still be a elite person intellectually. I wish he could have had more time. I liked how he focused on stuff that he knew would both interest and be informative to us.

COL Carter

I really liked his presentation style; he did not want us to be lectured so he kept asking questions and allowed his presentation to be merely a guild line for the questions. He showed how he really was a leader in this flexibility to meet the needs of the class. To be honest I really can’t think of anything to change about this presentation. He has influenced my leadership in a way where I understand that questions are more importing and can be allowed for the understanding of the subject madder. More back ground and stories from his history would have been nice however.

This article is about the problems in writing. It talks about how the business people adopt a style of writing and this style simply does not work. It goes on to say that the message is lost in the wording and miscommunication of the letters and memo’s. They say that lost in the middle of the articles is where the real message is and what is needed to be done about it. The blame is placed on a lack of time to write in the correct way and this in turn causes more money because people have to take time to understand what they are trying to day

I can agree more with this article. My style of writing is one of the ones that are talked about sadly enough. We write more along the lines of thinking on paper than we do in writing what we want and need to be done. This is a problem however with most people. I have gotten emails and just tried to think about what I could possibly do about it. When that person would contact me later to say hey why you didn’t respond to my request.

I really like the statistics behind what the school was looking at and how they would affect the job market and how the students looked at jobs verse how the students were trained for them. I really wish there could have been more studies associated with this study; however I know this was not possible. This presentation showed how that as students we need to focus on more than just what the assignments are and more on the entire education and how it will affect us and are careers.

Scott Dorney

I like his insights on how you need to build up programs. Sometimes the programs are not where they should be and as a leader you are expected to improve the group. I wish he spent more time on how his leadership was formed. I will take away that in the world working with others in business is very important. This shows how caring for others is a major responsibility of the leaders in the world.

Len Kulik

I like how he talked about how his leadership transferred to the real world and his talking about realy world problems. I wish he could have talked a little more about what really affected his overall changes of leadership and how it has help him improve. His presentation showed that you never know what you will end up doing, but if you work hard and have the right stuff you get where you want to be.

LTC (Ret) Eric Buller

I liked his stories of leadership and how they affected him. I did not like his presentation sounding like a recruitment speech. In addition his comments on a military person getting a job over an engineer even if they had not experience in that field kind of showed a misunderstanding of what jobs engineers do. I don’t really think I can take anything new away from his presentation. He did infusive other principles and facts that where all ready discussed and this allowed me to focus on these to see how I could improve on them.

Week 12

Chamberlain

Chamberlain’s decisions showed how he was a true leader. He was faced with a adverse situation in which he faced a larger and better supplied enemy. He knew his actions would play a major role in the outcome of the battle, and he probability did not know how big of an impact it would be on the war it’s self.  The values of being able to visualize the whole battle along with understand the finer points such as his men’s resolve and their determination. This allowed him to first stretch the line using orders the men all ready new. This allowed for them to still keep fighting along with fallowing the orders. These showed his true understanding of the mission. His charge was also a very important decision. He would have lost the hill if he had not made his force appear to be larger than it was. He also understood that while he was part of a large group that mission was to win the battle his subordinates and his leadership where a vital part of the battle. This all showed is ability to lead under fire.

York

SGT York is possibly one of my favorite stores of leadership.  Knowing that not only did he object to war, yet when he was called upon he did not hesitate to help his fellow men and save there life’s. The enemy was demonized by the fact that a single solder was afflicting so much damage on their force which had many more than one persons. His demonstration of leadership and resolve actually help the enemy realize that he was a superb leader and they need to surrender if they wanted to live. This also can be seen in how a group of so few was able to control and bring 132 pensioners back with only a few men. This was done while still attacking hidden enemy positions. His resolve of taking pensioners instead of saying that they could take them since they didn’t have enough people to control them showed his compaction, and his core believes.

Bothe these men where good leaders how ever there is a need for good followers as well. in my diving experience it is important for the divemasters to be followers for the instructors. While the divemasters are still leaders they need to make sure they are following the plan of the instructor.   This will allow for the best possible environment for the people looking for leadership from the diving professionals.  This illustrates while leadership is need if you don’t have people who know how to follow the leaders then nothing can be taken care of.
